Nanny for Boys

For several years I nannied for a wonderful family with two little boys. When I first started for the family, the boys were two years old and four years old. I currently still work for this family while I am in the program today. This has been one of the most challenging jobs that I have had so far. One of the boys is on the autistic spectrum and has had challenges with controlling his anger and emotions. In the beginning, this was extremely challenging for me, and I constantly went home thinking “I can’t do this anymore”. Despite this, I had created a real bond with both boys, and although there were often fits that were hard to understand, I learned how to help and work through these situations with him. I am extremely thankful for this experience, despite the difficulties I often faced. This has made me realize that all children grow and develop differently, and sometimes some children need a little extra help and time to do so. I also had to address my own biases in my life and learn how to handle these situations accordingly. By learning to do so, I think it has made me a better educator and has massively opened my eyes to child development. I hope to bring everything that I have learned from this job with me through my teaching career and I believe that will make me that much more qualified to be teaching all of my wonderful future students.

Nanny for Girls

During the summer of 2020 I took a nanny position in northern BC, hours away from the people and places I was familiar with. In this live-in position I cared for two girls, aged 3 years old and four months old. This experience was truly like none I had ever encountered before, and it forever changed me. I moved to this ranch in a tiny little town with no cell service to care for two wonderful children. I learned to love the community, the wilderness, and the simply peaceful life. This was really the first time I was away from my hometown and family, and it greatly benefitted if not changed me, and allowed me to see things differently. My favourite part about this job experience is that I loved it so much that I considered staying long term and taking time away from going to school. However, I decided that I had worked so hard at becoming a teacher and was so excited to do so, that I simply could not give up or postpone working towards my teaching career. That is, this job helped me see how important education is in my life, from my own education to being an educator, and I am excited to be that much closer to doing what I strongly believe is what I was meant to do.

Nanny Position 2022-2023

Over the past year while I completed the teaching program, I nannied for an amazing family with two little kids aged 3 years old and five months old. I truly loved caring for these children and think it has helped reinforce my passion for working with children. Often while the baby was sleeping, I was able to work on some pre school work with the three year old. He not only loved to learn, but I loved having the opportunity to work with him and encourage his passion to learn.
